CHE Update for 2/6

Good morning everyone!! Wow! What a Super Bowl. I hope you enjoyed your weekend (football fan or not). I have a ton of information for the week. As always, contact me anytime with questions.

1. Traffic: Please remember that student, staff, and community safety is a top priority for our school. We try to spend a lot of time discussing rules, procedures, and being safe with students over the course of the year. Unfortunately, the message seems to go out the window when it comes to driving in front of the school, especially during drop off and pick up. Please remember to obey all traffic rules, to follow the directives of staff working during traffic pick up and drop off, and to just slow down. Some basic guidelines:

A. It is easier to park and walk in. I know this isn't always possible but it is the safest thing you can do.

B. It is a school zone. Please keep the speed down and avoid U-Turns, dropping your child off in the middle of the street, and any illegal parking. While I know some of you have important things to get to (including work, other schools, etc.), slowing down and practicing patience usually prevents most issues.

C. Please pull-up! If you are pulling up the front curb, please continue to pull up as far as the car in front of you. One or two cars stopping at the driveway or in the middle of the parking zone impedes the flow of traffic and sometimes ruin an entire period of drop-off/pick-up. Also, do not park or leave your car at the front curb.

D. Bus/Daycare Van Zone: The pull-out area before the main drive-way (near the baseball field) is for buses and daycare vans only. Please avoid entering the area at all.

2. Spring Photo Day: Spring photo day is coming up on February 15th. Flyers have gone out and are also posted around campus. Please contact the main office with any questions!

3. CHE PTA News: The Father-Daughter Dance is coming up this Friday, February 10th from 5:30-8:30 in the MPR. Check out the PTA Facebook Page, PTA website (http://www.cordeliahillspta.org/), or send me a message if you have any questions. Additional flyers are also available in the main office. Also, check out the sign-up genius if you would like to help out: Dance Sign Up Genius

PTA Elections will take place on Tuesday, March 14th at 3:15 in the library. If you are interested in running for a PTA board position, please pick up a nomination form in the main office or contact me and I will scan you a form. We often hear input from parents on some great ideas or changes for our school. The PTA is a great place to give input.

4. News on the library: Great news! The Cordelia Public Library will be coming out on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month starting February 15th. They will be setting up their "Book Mobile" in our library with books we don't currently own and/or may not own enough of. They will also gladly bring out any requests (parents and teachers included). Parents, students, and staff can also put books on hold the week before and they will bring them out. Just make sure to tell Ms. Baker what name to look for. Hours will be 1:30-2:15. Bring your Solano County library cards. This is a fantastic, unique opportunity for our community!

5. Proposed Changes in "The Ranch" school boundaries: The Fairfield Suisun Unified School District Board of Trustees will vote (February 9th) on proposed changes to school boundaries for "The Ranch" development of Cordelia. Currently, students who live in "The Ranch" can enroll in either Oakbrook or Cordelia Hills Elementary. Under the proposed changes, any new residents or TK/K students enrolling for the 17-18 school year will enroll in Cordelia Hills. Any current Oakbrook students who live in "The Ranch" would continue to attend Oakbrook under the proposed changes. For more information, check out our website for information here: Ranch Information. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me anytime.
