Week 2 coming to a close!

Happy Friday and Happy Hawaiian Spirit Day! We are starting to settle in after the first two weeks of school. Our students have been busy learning new routines and procedures. I've stressed a theme of igniting the passion for learning with staff and am encouraging our teachers to take the time to build strong relationships with every student (something they do well!) A few important announcements and reminders for this week and beyond: 1. Schedule : as a new principal to the school, I am reviewing the school calendar and working with staff to make some slight changes to school specific events/dates. We will be sending out a finalized "spirit" day list along with other major events. We appreciate your patience. 2. Back to School Night : Back to School Night is coming up this next Tuesday, August 30th. The evening starts at 6:00 p.m. in the MPR with teacher introductions and a short school-wide presentation. We will hold two classroom sessions for parents: 6:30 and

Remember, this Friday, August 26th  is  Hawaiian Day!

MAP Assessments Begin

This year, our school (and all schools) is taking a series of new "benchmark like" reading and math assessments. The assessments are online and are adaptive. They are meant to establish a baseline set of skills to start and grow from. Since the assessments are adaptive, it will allow the teacher/student to set goals that are at a particular students level (below, at, or above grade level). We are starting the assessments this week and will continue working for the new few weeks to make sure every student takes both assessments. For more information on the new "MAP" assessments, please feel free to check out this link  https://www.nwea.org/  or email/call me anytime.

First Week Wraps Up!

Friday marked the end of the first week of school. Thank you so much for you generous donation of supplies and materials to our classrooms. We can't thank you enough for your support of our program. For more information on donations to the classrooms, check out the lists on the front office window or go to our website:  Cordelia Hills Webpage A few reminders about traffic safety: Please politely follow all directions from school staff and please follow all traffic laws. Our biggest areas of concern include: speed in the morning, turning around in the middle of Canyon Hills Drive, waving your child across lanes of traffic, and using inappropriate language with staff. Thank you so much for your cooperation in keeping drop off and pick up safe. Remember, every Wednesday is a collaborative planning day with dismissal at 1:35 (with TK exceptions). Also, the District calendar can be found at:  fsusd.org Lastly, please join us on August 30th for BACK to SCHOOL NIGHT starting at 6:0

Introduction

Image
I am so excited to join the Cordelia Hills school community. I grew up 35 minutes from here in the small town of Rodeo (Contra Costa County). I attended school in the John Swett Unified School District (K-12). After high school, I graduated from UC Berkeley in 2002, attended the SF State Credential program and was teaching at John Swett High School by October of 2003. I worked at Swett for several years before moving to the principal position at Rodeo Hills Elementary. I was at RHES for six year before making the move to Cordelia. I currently live in Green Valley with my wife and two daughters (8 and 10). I have a passion for running, spending time with family and friends, and good food. I look forward to serving the students of this community in what is premier, ever changing learning environment.
