CHE Update for 4/24

I was in the front parking area and a parent drove up to me on Friday and said she needed to speak with me. I walked up to her window and she declared emphatically that "Mr. Amos needs a paw pride. I just love that man." She went on to tell me about an interaction she watched that morning. A young boy was walking up to the school and Amos told the boy to pull over and then he proceeded to help him tie his shoe. Another boy questioned Amos on why he was doing that and that the boy didn't ask for help. Amos told him the second child that sometimes you just have to do the right thing to help a friend and that you shouldn't have to always be asked before doing the right thing. I know so many of you already know how wonderful Amos is but I am constantly struck on how he stands as a powerful example of what being a tremendous educator and good human should be all about. Whether someone is a parent, teacher, principal, or support staff, we all have a unique opportunity to shape the future of our community in such a powerful way. Please say thanks to Amos if you see him around. He always appreciates the kind words.

A few announcements and update for the week:

1. Coyote Howl Hop: The annual Coyote Howl Hop is coming up on Friday, May 19th from 5-8 p.m. at Cordelia Hills. The evening will include dancing and music, food, games, an auction, and a dessert walk. We are looking forward to seeing all of our families at the event. Please know that we are looking for dessert donations. If you are interested in donating or helping in other ways, the PTA will have a sign-up genius available on its Facebook later this week. I will email more information later this week but please mark your calendars!!

2. CAASPP Testing is Underway! 3rd grade has kicked off the state testing season and it has gone well this morning. Please remember to have your student here, on-time and well rested every day during the testing period. This is the primary means of measurement of academic success by the District and State. Our kids are going to ROCK this assessment!

3. TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC!! I am pleading for your help! Please use an abundance of caution and common sense when navigating the areas around our school. The area behind the school (near the back gate) is our biggest hot spot. It is true that the streets behind the school are public but I am hoping we can give as much respect as possible to our school neighbors, many who lived here long before the school was built. If you aren't a person who walks to school, please DRIVE to the front of the school and drop off. I know nothing about drop off or pick up is convenient, but please do your best to be safe and to be respectful of our community and neighbors!
