CHE Update for 3/28

Welcome back to CHE! Yesterday marked 50 days until the end of the year. While we are definitely on the downhill of the 2016-2017 school year, it is going to be a VERY busy, exciting race to the end. A glimpse into some of the work we have going on this week and beyond:

1. 99% Attendance Competition: Our school wide attendance goal is 98% attendance for the school year. Winter months are tough for attendance and so spring is an important time to get our attendance back on a positive track and to ensure students are in classes. This week, we are looking for students to meet a simple challenge. 99% attendance for the school. If we can hit our goal twice this week, students will be selected to throw pie at me (and any other adult willing to join me) at lunch time. I know we can do it!

2. Brickspace: BrickSpace (out of Benicia) is here for the next two weeks holding Lego Steam classes for our students. We have started with 5th grade Lego Robotics and will work through our classes over the course of the next two weeks.

3. Royal Dance: Royal Dance Company visits every elementary school in the District and our site visit is coming next week. We are working with the company to cement the exact schedule and a student performance. As soon as we have a performance date and time, we will share that with you. Sorry for any delay in notifying you but we can't schedule anything until we hear from them on available times. We do expect it to be sometime next Friday, April 7th.

4. State Testing: State testing has arrived. SBAC testing will take place starting April 24th and will last through May 25th. It is really important our students are here, well-rested, and prepared to test. This is the single-most important State, District, and CHE indicator for student performance. Currently, our schedule is as follows:

3rd grade: April 24-April 28th (all day)
4th grade: May 1st-May 5th (all day)
5th grade: May 8th-May 15th (all day)
Make-ups: ON-going thru-May 25th

To get a glimpse of the test or to help your student practice, check out: Please go to www.fsusd.org/assessment and click on the green button "SBAC Practice & Training Tests" to access the site. Students can access as a Guest at school or home!

5. Honor Roll Assembly: The 4th and 5th grade Honor Roll Assembly is coming up Friday, March 31st at 8:45. Students with a 3.0 and above will be recognized. Parents are welcome to join us in the MPR. Please check in the main office for a visitor badge before coming down. We can't wait to celebrate our awesome honor roll scholars!

6. PTA News: Mixed Bag Fundraiser is underway. Packets went home but if you need extras, please check in the main office or email me and I can stick an extra one in your child's backpack! Also, PTA will hold a Mother-Son Hike on Friday, April 14th at Rockville Park starting at 10:00 a.m. at Rockville Regional Park located in the Green Valley-Rockville Area of Fairfield.

**Reminder, as spring approaches, students must be addressed in proper attire including closed toe footwear and tops. Thanks for your cooperation.
