CHE Updates

Hello Coyote Families! Sorry for the delay in notes. It has been a brisk start to the week after the Thanksgiving Break. I hope everyone enjoyed some time with family and friends and some time away from school. As the winter season continues, please remember that the period right before and after the Winter Break is usually marked by poor attendance. Please do your part by sending your child to school every day that it is in session! We greatly appreciate it.
A few important updates and reminders for the week are below.

Updates:

1. Academic Recognition and Conferences: Thank you for all of the parents who were able to make it to conferences. I think recognizing the work of our students and setting areas of growth is so important. This week, we are recognizing our 1st trimester top academic performers in the 4th and 5th grades. I will be visiting each 4th and 5th grade classroom to recognize each high performing student and to encourage continued excellence into the 2nd trimester.

2. Winter Festival: The CHE PTA Winter Festival will take place this Friday, December 2nd from 5-8 p.m. here at CHE. The event includes Ornament Making, cookie decorating, a dessert auction, hot chocolate bar, and a choir performance. The PTA will also have a spaghetti dinner ($10 for adults/6 for children). Lastly, Santa will be making an apperance at the event. We hope you can make it.

3. Sock Drive: The sock drive will take place from Dec 1-Dec 15. Families/students can drop off socks in the MPR. We are aiming to fill 5 large garbage bags with new socks. The flyer is also here: Sock Drive Flyer.

4. MAP Testing: All students in Grades 1-5 will be taking the District-wide MAP computerized assessments starting in December and lasting thru late January. Measures of Academic Progress, or MAP, creates a personalized assessment experience by adapting to each student’s learning level—precisely measuring student progress and growth for each individual. The assessment provides essential information about what each student knows and is ready to learn within 24 hours. Please feel free to reach out to the classroom teacher if you have any questions. This is the second round of the assessment for grades 2-5. The student score was listed on the report card and should have been explained to you at conference.

5. 5th Grade Families: Two important notices for 5th grade families will be going out via letter but I thought I would spread the word asap:

         a. 5th grade promotion ceremony: FSUSD WILL NOT be holding any "promotion ceremony" for 5th graders. While CHE hasn't held an official promotion ceremony in the past, we wanted to specifically alert parents as this is a district policy that has changed this year. While we don't believe that the transition for 5th graders is a promotion, we do believe in recognizing the achievement of students in the time they've spent in elementary school. We are working on a way to recognize students appropriately and will alert parents as soon as we know.

         b. 6th Grade Orientation: Green Valley Middle school will be on-site for a short presentation on February 9th at 9:00 a.m. This is for students only. Students will receive a middle school registration packet. The middle school will then hold a orientation on Wednesday, March 8th from 5-6 in the GVMS gym (parents and students should attend).  Packets will be turned in at that time. The middle school will provide more detailed information about additional orientation and class scheduling at that time.
