Cordelia Hills Community Update

Good morning everyone,
I hope the week has treated you well. A few important updates for the upcoming week:
1. No School  on Monday in observance of Labor Day.
2. Support the Cordelia Hills PTA!: Support the great work of our CHE Parent Teacher Association by joining the PTA today. The membership is $10.00 and the whole family is encouraged to join (parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles). This fall we are holding a membership drive competition with Putnam Elementary in New York state. If Cordelia Hills wins, students with family members who have joined the PTA will be able to duct tape Mr. Trotter to the courtyard wall. Also, the PTA will have a drawing for two chromebooks and an Apple Watch for those who join the PTA during the drive. For more information, check out cordeliahillspta.org
3. GATE referrals due by September 16th: If you are interested in having your 2-5th grader GATE tested, please complete the Test Request form on the FSUSD GATE webpage by Friday, September 16th, 3:30PM.  You may also access it with this link:GATE Link GATE testing referrals (for the 16-17 school year) will not be accepted after the 16th.
Please note:  There is no need to refer a first grader, as all first graders will be tested unless they are opted-out by a parent.
4. Attendance Awareness Month: September is Attendance Awareness Month! While CHE attendance is generally very high, it is important we keep it at the forefront of everything we do. To celebrate the month, four local schools are going head to head in an attendance competition to see which school can have the best attendance percentage. Check out the flyer here for more information: Attendance Competition The important thing for the competition is to try to have a high attendance rate between September 12th - September 23rd.


5. Article on Recess: I am sharing this with staff and thought you might enjoy it. A great article on why recess is so important for our children. Recess Article
6. So-Fit-City: A large number of FSUSD employees are signging up for the 5k or 10k at the So Fit City Run at Solano College on September 24th. I would love to see some great CHE families join us. Check out the link if you are interested: SO FIT CITY

Welcome to another week at Cordelia Hills! We look forward to our final ramp up to Wednesday's Fun Run. Check out the blog below for information on the Fun Run, the week, and report card conferences.  Top Highlights •  Coyote Color Run takes place this Wednesday, November 8th. The run  schedule is set with: TK-K @ 10:00 4-5 @ 11 1-3 @ 12:30 The run will take place on the Upper Field.  Funrun.com  is open and is accepting online pledges for support of STEAM funding at Cordelia Hills. Be an Internet Safety Champion Our students have a terrific amount of access to information and infinite methods for communication via the information. With that access comes a need for education and accountability. Many educators struggle to keep up with all that comes with greater access. We reach out to you to partner with us to held build strong internet capable students. Please monitor use by your student. We encourage regular conversations about internet safety. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Thank you to the many volunteers who helped in making The Coyote Howl a success. Seeing smiling faces and kids enjoying the evening is always the best and your hard work, determination, time, and donations made it happen Friday night! Go Coyotes! Parent Requests Many of you have asked if you can request a teacher for your child. The short answer is no. We work hard as a staff to ensure our classes are balanced in academics, behaviors, gender, diversity and size. Thank you for trusting us with your child. MAP Testing District benchmark MAP testing has begun in grades 1-5. The end of year assessments take place in both ELA and math and will be reported on the end of year report card. Thank you for your support in making sure your child is at school everyday!
