Community Update for the week of September 12

Hi everyone,

 I feel so lucky to work here with your students! They have to be some of the kindest little human beings on earth. Below are updates for the upcoming week and events. Have a terrific week!

 1. Our attendance competition started today and lasts thru September 23rd. We are so excited to go up against Nelda Mundy, Oakbrook, and Green Valley Middle to see who can have the highest attendance percentage over the next two weeks. Friday, Officer Holecek from FPD visited to celebrate attendance and to say hello to kids this morning. Some other events related to the event: 

  a. The grade with the highest attendance percentage over the two week period will earn a frozen fruit bar party/free recess for the entire grade on the week of September 26th. I will announce and post the percentages out front everyday. 

 b. We will select 10 students from each grade with perfect attendance over the period to sit at a special lunch table in the lunchroom on the week of the 26th.

 c. We will host a variety of other welcoming gestures at the front of the school.

2. Photo Day: The Fall Photo Day is coming up on September 14th. A reminder flyer is here: Photo Day Flyer.

3. PTA Membership Drive and Meeting: The CHE PTA will meet on Tuesday, September 13th at 3:15 in the library. The PTA has much in store for the year and we encourage wide school participation. For more information on PTA or to sign-up, check out http://www.cordeliahillspta.org/
We are aiming for 500 members and are well on our way.

 4. Book Fair: The Fall Book fair is coming up the week of September 26th. The fair will be open before and after school in the music room (stage area). The PTA will be looking for volunteers and will post a sign up genius link soon. The theme for the Book Fair is Pirates. Also, we are sponsoring  ALL FOR BOOKS charity drive. For every dollar we raise, Scholastic donates a book to the cause of our choice. In order to encourage students to raise money, I will allow them to vote on a costume that I will wear in the near future. Apparently, mermaid is the top choice so far (wow!).

 5. Freeborn Creek Cleanup: Join Cordelia Hills and the Cordelia Community as we clean up Freeborn Creek on September 17th. For more information, check out this flyer: Freeborn Creek Cleanup

 10/6: Progress reports mailed home

 10/10: NO School for students or teacherse

Welcome to another week at Cordelia Hills! We look forward to our final ramp up to Wednesday's Fun Run. Check out the blog below for information on the Fun Run, the week, and report card conferences.  Top Highlights •  Coyote Color Run takes place this Wednesday, November 8th. The run  schedule is set with: TK-K @ 10:00 4-5 @ 11 1-3 @ 12:30 The run will take place on the Upper Field.  Funrun.com  is open and is accepting online pledges for support of STEAM funding at Cordelia Hills. Be an Internet Safety Champion Our students have a terrific amount of access to information and infinite methods for communication via the information. With that access comes a need for education and accountability. Many educators struggle to keep up with all that comes with greater access. We reach out to you to partner with us to held build strong internet capable students. Please monitor use by your student. We encourage regular conversations about internet safety. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! Thank you to the many volunteers who helped in making The Coyote Howl a success. Seeing smiling faces and kids enjoying the evening is always the best and your hard work, determination, time, and donations made it happen Friday night! Go Coyotes! Parent Requests Many of you have asked if you can request a teacher for your child. The short answer is no. We work hard as a staff to ensure our classes are balanced in academics, behaviors, gender, diversity and size. Thank you for trusting us with your child. MAP Testing District benchmark MAP testing has begun in grades 1-5. The end of year assessments take place in both ELA and math and will be reported on the end of year report card. Thank you for your support in making sure your child is at school everyday!
