CHE Update for 10/28

Arrgghhhh!  Happy Pirate Day! Some amazing spirit in this school to say the least. It has been a brisk week with many exciting things going on here. First, today wraps up Red Ribbon Week. Students sported Red Wrist Bands instead of the red ribbons. Also, PE classes and kinder classes tied red ribbons on the front fences. Many classes also discussed healthy choices and took a pledge to be healthy and drug free.

On a personal note, I joined a group of new FSUSD administrators on a tour of the Juvenile Detention Facility  in downtown Fairfield. The visit definitely changed my view of what our county is doing with young offenders. While there is no sugar-coating that the JDF is essentially a jail, the facility is working with county probation to implement some innovative programs to change the lives of some of the high risk youth in our county.

Some important announcements and things to remember:

1. Halloween Parade: The parade will start sometime between 8:25-8:30. Parents should report to the amphitheater. Classes will line up on the yard and will parade thru the amphitheater two times. Once they are done, they will line up in the normal lines and report to class. Please remember students should avoid having any costumes that include gore, weapons/weapon props, masks, or clowns. They are allowed to wear the costume the remainder of the day during class. If it rains, we will have students march around the top breezeway/hallways. They will do a lap and then report to class. I am hoping we will be dry! Also, please remember that SCHOOL IS in session next Tuesday. The day after Halloween is not a holiday and we really need students to come to school.

2. Canned Food Drive and Penny Drive: We are collecting non-perishable food items to donate to Mission Solano for the winter season. Please bring in any non-perishables you would like to donate and drop them off in the main office. I know we can fill our boxes several times! Second grade is also going to start a PENNY Drive for Mission Solano. We appreciate your kindness during this important season of giving! We will continue to take donations thru the next three weeks.

3. Report Cards/Conferences: The first trimester is coming to an end. Please remember that conference week is from 11/14-11/18. We get out of school at 11:40 each day (Both TK classes come at the same time that week). It is really important that you work with teachers to schedule a conference for your child. Paper conference letters will go out Nov. 3rd and online schedule links (for those teachers that use online scheduling) will go out on Nov. 4th. Also, please remember that Friday, November 4th is a non-student day and is meant for teachers to work on report cards.
