CHE update for 10/7
Yesterday, as I was leaving school, a few of our students were waiting outside for a ride. The girls stay after school to participate in a program called Girls on the Run. They had wrapped up the activities for the afternoon and were headed home. These girls exuded confidence, strength, and life. Talking with these girls in that moment made me so proud to be here at CHE and to be a partner with you in raising some AMAZING young students.
A few of my closest co-workers from across Fairfield-Suisun Unified have joined to get moving this October. We have challenged each other to 100 miles (walk/run), 100 minutes of plank, and 100 minutes of meditation. We are calling it #movetober. We welcome anyone in our school community to join us and encourage you to post your work on social media with the hashtag #movetober.
Anyways, enough blabbering from me. Some important announcements:
1. Students of the month: Today, we celebrate our 48 September Students of the Month. We are focusing on selecting students that represent a range of high quality character traits and academic growth and success. We are so excited for these terrific students!
2. School Safety/Social Media: During the week I sent an email referencing the social media threats and rumors concerning some FSUSD schools (not CHE). I just want to encourage you to have a frank conversation with your children (if age appropriate) about the impacts of and responsible use of social media. I have included this link to some Edutopia parent resources: Digital Citizenship Resources
3. Coyote Color Run: Our Coyote Color Run is coming up next week! I am sending a separate email concerning fundraising, etc. but I wanted to cover a few questions:
A. Where is the fun run held? The fun run is being held on the grass field. There are two tracks (one for younger students and one for upper grader students).
B. How will they get lunch time? We are adjusting the schedule for the day:
a. K-2 will eat/have recess at 11:10-11:50. They will then run from 12:00-1:00.
b. 3-5 will eat/have recess at 12:30-1:10.They will run from 11:00-12:00
C. What if the kids get messy with color? The color substance is actually corn starch and we've talked to the company extensively about clean-up, etc. . The students are encouraged to bring goggles or other face covers and to not wear Sunday's best. When the run is complete they will go through blowers to get any remaining corn starch off. They have the option of using an "inner path" that doesn't include color. They are welcome to walk, skip, run, jog, etc.

4. Attendance: Remember, daily attendance is a top priority for us. We had a large number of students absent with the number of students absent topping 20 students the last few days. Please help us reach our goal of over 98% this year by getting your student to school everyday!
5. Academic Goals: One area of focus for this year is working with students to establish growth goals in both math and ELA. Help us by talking with your students about what goals they have the year and what steps they are taking to reach their personal goals.
6. Progress Reports: Are coming out and should be at home no later than October 11th. Please reach out to the teacher with any specific questions or concerns.
